Kintsugi 金継ぎ / Kintsukuroi 金繕い

*Not continuing due to severe allergy build up by the repeated exposure to the urushiol in the lacquer. (what’s in poison ivy/oak) lol

Beginning during 15th century Japan, Kintsugi 金継ぎ / Kintsukuroi 金繕い, (golden joinery) a restoration technique formed. In recognizing the ability that one can heal themselves through discovering the love within their self, having been broken or damaged, they’ll be seen as more beautiful and resilient than ever before. It is about acknowledging and appreciating a subjects history because that is what has made it what it is now. It is used to repair and join together uniquely broken pottery through natural mediums of lacquer (Urushi 漆) from the lacquer tree (Toxicodendron vernicifluum) and pure powdered gold or silver. A simple reminder that what doesn’t kill you.. certainly makes you stronger! (since the living lacquer binds stronger continuously while drying) So yes, it has been broken and now it is whole again in whole new and most precious way.

But really the fact is that you are never really broken through all you may go through with life. You (your Soul) is only made aware becoming better and stronger however so to eventually realize Heaven. That may be when the whole piece of pottery is eventually broken so much that it’s replaced with nothing but pure gold!! lol Or rather when you have surrendered your self entirely to Heaven that is when you may be living it.
These pieces are a physical representation of such philosophy. They are something that your hands may hold & feel as real & true. To simply appreciate or even still utilize continuously as gold is food grade safe. :)

Send me your broken parts!
It be a joy to repair the piece the best way I know how for you.
The restoration process takes 2 weeks to months or so depending on how complex the break is.
Restored the traditional way as they did in the 1400’s Japan.
